Campfire Ban In Effect On Thursday, July 17th At 12pm

🔥 Campfire Ban Incoming for B.C.'s Coastal Region 🔥

As summer heat intensifies, British Columbia will enact a campfire ban impacting the Sayward region.

Already under restriction are Category 2 and 3 open fires—and this latest measure expands the prohibition to include:

  • Fireworks
  • Sky lanterns
  • Burn barrels
  • Tiki torches
  • And other potential ignition sources

🔥 Notably exempt: cooking, heating, or ambiance devices certified by CSA or ULC, powered by charcoal briquettes, liquid, or gaseous fuels, with flame heights kept below 15 cm.

⚠️ Violators face steep consequences:

  • $1,150 ticket
  • $10,000 administrative penalty
  • Or a $100,000 fine and up to 1 year in jail if convicted

The ban will remain in effect until October 31, unless lifted earlier. Meanwhile, 67 wildfires are actively burning across B.C.—most in the northeast.
